Read moreWelcome to our August newsletter. For all of us at CGC, the 2014/15 end of financial year went off with a bang (more about celebrating this from Trevor Brown in our Social section) and the beginning of the new FY is off to a cracking start. First up we’ll hear from James Loomes with a write-up on the Building Services sector:
We are seeing an uplift from the first 6 months of the calendar year across all areas which CGC operate within the building services sector (including consulting, contracting and service & maintenance). Client demand is high for top calibre experienced staff. Major projects are continuing to require resources, along with smaller projects that include retrofit/refurbishment type works starting to pick up.
We are witnessing an increase in the building services contractor market where businesses are looking to further diversify their business in other areas (e.g. predominately HVAC service & maintenance businesses are now looking to bolt on a projects/construction business).
We are also finding that the large services subcontractors are incorporating a business plan that further develops themselves by identifying opportunities in other States where they have not previously operated.
Key candidates that are currently in high demand across the country include;

July saw the team mark a massively successful year, and what better way to celebrate than to cut the week short and take a trip out to the Hunter Valley wine country for our annual company conference.
The ‘CGC Banter Bus’ was packed and ready to go for an early start with Hopey returning just in time to grace us with his presence after a big trip to the UK. The bus trip was made by Evan’s well executed ‘A Question of Rec Con’. His series of team questions fuelled the banter levels and kept the bar nice and high for the rest of the trip!
Crown Plaza delivered, as did the weather, and after dropping our bags, Nick and Jim presented a very positive CGC story of 2015 as well as sharing big plans for 2016. Loomesy, Billy and Hopey also said some very encouraging words and after Hopey collected his CGC Top Biller Trophy we wrapped up and were whisked off to the vineyards.
We enjoyed wine tasting and delicious food at some very well selected wineries (good work Glynis!), then had a very fun night out at Harrigans Irish Pub.
The night was long, and with some sore heads in the morning we embarked upon 9 holes of golf on a glorious sunny day. Two players decided the foyer couch was a better option, and the rest braved through to complete the course. Shot of the day is a tossup between Billy’s pro drive, Trev’s beginners luck long putt and Nick’s highly technical triple pond skimming power smash.
With heads still sore we hit the road, stopping off for a controversial KFC on route. Die hards Rory and Evan kept up the banter ensuring another entertaining journey. A great trip all in all, and very well deserved!
In other news, Dan and Rory celebrated their birthdays and Glynis clocked 2 years at CGC and Azri ticked over his first year too. Congrats guys!
Last but certainly not least, CGC have welcomed a new team member, Matthew Weighill. Matt joins us from the UK and has a successful background in technical contract recruitment. He will be joining Billy’s team in contract construction.
Welcome aboard Matt.
