In this month’s newsletter we hear from our Building Services, service & maintenance expert Trevor Brown about what’s hot and what’s not in the sector, followed by Nic Maplestone with an update on all things weird and wonderful in CGC Social. Here’s Trevor.

Industry update with Trevor Brown, Building Services

Most were anticipating a lull in hiring over the January period, with the Christmas and Australia Day holidays, but in my sector it’s been quite the opposite. Due to the warmer weather, HVAC Service is at its busiest during the months of December to March, and although some of the hiring was done in anticipation before this time, there are always plenty of reactive hires to be filled. The Summer months bring with it a strain on the mechanical air conditioning services of a building for example, so more resources are needed to ensure that occupants are comfortable and ultimately service contracts are retained.

Account Managers and Technicians move and vacancies become available so it’s a case of keeping all our clients informed at all times of available people in the market. This is a time of year for service businesses to show what they’ve got, as there are plenty of HVAC service businesses budding for lucrative contracts, particularly right now when some major contracts are at tender stage.

General feedback at present from my clients indicates that Sydney and Brisbane are as busy as they could wish for, and that Adelaide and Melbourne has certainly been better in the past. Either way, as construction continues in the direction it is going, next year should be even busier for all concerned.

Trevor was recently visiting clients in Brisbane and of course took the opportunity to visit fellow colleague David Hope in the Brisbane office. Trevor’s given the new office the thumbs up .. and the nearby watering hole too!

The CGC team are still in good form and keeping up the health and fitness sessions into February.

A high attendance in the CGC sponsored lunchtime bootcamps is ensuring the team stays on track, with competition consistently high between Todd and Brown to take out the CGC Fitness Crown. There could however be some questions asked next month by Director James with his dedication and “small lever” advantage!
