November 2013 Newsletter

Greetings!

November is traditionally a very busy time at CGC HQ and this year has proved to be no different from previous years.
Whilst the ever informative CGC Newsletters have more recently reported specific areas of growth and activity within their specialist business units, it’s with great pleasure to report that all areas of the business are busy moving into the final month of the calendar year. This positive sentiment and high level of recruitment activity is to continue through next month and into 2014.

Industry

This month we focus on the exciting infrastructure plans for NSW. In addition to the North West Rail Link, South West Rail Link, WestConnex, Inner West Light Rail and Wynyard Walk this month there has been further debate on the potential of Light rail by the NSW Government in Sydney.

The Minister for Transport recently said that the Sydney’s new light rail project linking Circular Quay, Central, Randwick and Kingsford would deliver 10,000 jobs and more than $4 billion in economic benefits to the State – $2.50 for every $1 invested.

It is believed that light rail will play a crucial role in addressing the significant congestion challenges that face Sydney. It will significantly reduce the number of buses clogging CBD streets and an economic appraisal of the project found that light rail would deliver more than $2 billion in benefits for public transport users, $264 million for road users and environmental and social benefits worth $308 million.

As we move into the final planning approval and procurement phases there is huge support from major stakeholders. Subject to planning approval, work on the $1.6 billion CBD and South East Light Rail project is expected to start in 2014 and will take five to six years to complete.

The 12km light rail project will link Circular Quay and Central, the Moore Park sporting and entertainment precinct including the Sydney Cricket Ground and football stadium, Randwick Racecourse, the University of NSW and Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick.

What have CGC been up to?

At the end of last month (just after the October newsletter went to press) David Cox decided to walk down a building in the name of charity. David joined the AMP Team and abseiled down the AMP building on the side of Sydney’s Circular Quay. A cracking effort from David who personally raised $970, this contributed to the AMP Team total of $19, 675. Well done to all concerned! Never one to shy away from a photo opportunity he even managed a nervous smile!

With the office sweepstake drawn and racing tips in, CGC headed to the Light Brigade in Paddington to enjoy the Melbourne Cup celebrations. Some winners and losers on the day but as always a pleasurable afternoon had by all. Pictured below from left to right we have Mr Dan Kundi (backed the winner), Mr Steve Morris (had the winner in the sweep) and Mr Evan Morgans (looking most pleased with his second in the sweep)!!

And finally the CGC Wellbeing program was again in full effect in the month of November. For the second year in a row CGC participated in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 5.6 kms in Centennial Park, Sydney. The CGC participants had some friendly internal competition within the HQ office walls. Fun had by all with the following times posted (from left to right); Glynis MacDonald (34m39s), Billy Versey (23m53s), Nick Curtis (23m49s), David Cox (30m24s), James Grantham (24m55s), Steve Morris (26m52s) and David Hope (27m17s).
