Welcome to CGC’s August newsletter.

With the new financial year in full flow this month’s edition will focus on both the market and recent events at CGC HQ.

Industry news

Whilst unemployment figures have recently surged to a 12 year high at 6.4% we are certainly not seeing this reflected in the current demand for our services at CGC. Australia’s construction sector is strengthening and this is being driven by higher housing price and improved confidence.

The recently published Performance of Construction index (PCI), highlighted that apartment new builds are at a healthy level and with the increase in commercial construction activity being added to the mix, this blend gives the market every reason to anticipate sustained growth and recovery in 2014/15.

Following the trends discussed in each of our newsletters since May 2014, we are still seeing an increase in new vacancies being registered by our clients and this is particularly apparent in NSW. Clients are becoming extremely active in their search for both contract and permanent hires.

Whilst the volume of vacancies has increased, the flexibility being shown by hiring managers has not. The areas of demand include: REVIT MEP Modellers, Estimators (Construction, Civil, HVAC & Electrical backgrounds), Structural Design Managers, Civil Design Engineers & Project Engineers – Roads.

With career reviews happening at this time of year and the market tightening, do you know if you are you being paid market rate? Why not contact a specialist consultant to discuss salaries and give yourself a salary health check.

With this increased demand for our services we are keen to speak with experienced recruiters who are interested in joining the CGC business.  We are looking for consultants to work in the following verticals: Building, Infrastructure and Architecture. For a confidential discussion please contact David Cox

CGC News

We also recently held our annual EOFY review and business planning day. This included a full morning of business strategy, consultant presentations and company awards. This was followed by a fantastic lunch in top restaurant (pictures below) and some drinks in some of Sydney’s finest watering holes.

The charity events and fitness work is now again in full flow at CGC HQ with James Loomes and Billy Versey fighting it out in Sydney’s annual city2surf event – (selfie picture below). Both guys posted fantastic times with James just pipping Billy to the finish line with time of 61.50 with Billy coming in at 62.18 for the bragging rights.

Next up is the Blackmore bridge run. We will be expecting to have a large number of entries from the office and some great fundraising for the chosen company charity. The early favourites will be Billy and James but with some of the ‘sprint specialists’ in the office entering this one it really could be anyone’s race!

We look forward to seeing you again in September.
