Welcome to another month’s newsletter from CGC towers. It’s been a whirlwind month with end of year celebrations, work anniversaries, birthdays, new starters, and a great start to the new financial year with strong individual and collective performances.

Guiding you through the world of the mechanical contracting sector is Trevor Brown, who will provide you with market updates, growing trends and insider knowledge of the sector.

Bringing you up to date on all things CGC Social is Will Gardner, who has a bumper month of activities and events to cover as well as an introduction to our new starter Lindsey Massey in Brisbane.

Mechanical Update with Trevor Brown

The positive theme seems to stay the same in our industry updates these days, a theme of buoyancy and opportunity.

Barangaroo has changed the Sydney skyline as we know it, and there are a range of major projects that have been approved for build in the CBD, Parramatta and North Sydney. The industry isn’t showing any signs of slowing in NSW, although we are hearing of a slow-down in Perth and Adelaide due mainly to the decline in mining, and the lack of state led major infrastructure, or large scale projects such as hospitals, jails or universities.

The Greenland Tower (largest resi tower in Sydney) has hit a milestone with the demo of the current site being ahead of schedule; 100 Mount Street and York and George are in motion; the light rail has officially completed 1 kilometre of track through the city, and the usual major rail projects pushing forward and creating further demand for skilled people as they move into the successive stages.

From a Building Services perspective, we are still looking for senior engineers who can lead projects and have a strong client facing capability, as well as skilled Revit MEP modellers.

Established interstate mechanical contractors are still looking to take advantage of the buoyant Sydney market as well as many looking to the very busy New Zealand market, where we have already seen 4 of the top tier Australian contractors pick up major projects in Auckland and Christchurch.

The demand continues for experienced Project Managers and Site Managers who have delivered multimillion dollar projects for tier one builders, particularly in the healthcare, retail and commercial sectors. As for our builders requirements within Services, we are always keen to speak to Services Coordinators and Services Managers, particularly for high end residential projects.

The month of July we welcomed our newest staff member, Lindsey Massey, who has joined our Brisbane office and will be servicing our Architectural/Clientside Project Management clients in Queensland. Azri Azlan celebrated his 3 year anniversary with CGC and Billy’s birthday coincided with the end of financial year wrap up event which united both Brisbane and Sydney offices to celebrate the company’s, teams and individual successes over the financial year.

Organised by the seasoned CGC event planner, Glynis Macdonald, we started out at 2pm on the Thursday at the Sofitel hotel near our office for the annual presentations and yearly reviews from each team.

A special shout out goes to Rory Todd who took home the prestigious ‘Top Biller of the Year’ trophy after knocking David Hope off the top spot – reminiscent of Ronaldo and Messi tussling for the Ballon d’or.

Once all the presentations were finished we got to the business end…… the raffle. Prizes up for grabs included x2 $500 Westfield vouchers and $2k Flight Centre voucher.

Later in the afternoon we all made the short trip to Potts Point to eat at the quirky Ms G’s restaurant which served cheese burger spring rolls amongst an array of meat, seafood and vegan options.

After the meal, Kings Cross was on the agenda and with the drinks flowing (some more than others) and some questionable dancing, one by one people dispersed apart from a few stragglers acting out their favourite fairy tale Rapunzel.

The next day Friday in the office was back to work and business as usual in the morning, with afternoon office activates planned.

Activities included Beer Pong with Nic and George being the MVP’s and a quiz run by Carmel and Hollie, with the eventual winners being Jim, Ollie, Nic and Glynis.

The winning team name evades me but all in all this was a great end of financial year celebration enjoyed by all.
