Read moreWelcome to the February issue of the CGC Newsletter.
February has been a busy month for CGC as the wheels are well and truly in motion after Australia Day at the end of January. This month’s newsletter could be the final one from our current Sydney office as we count down the days to saying goodbye to our Loftus street address.
The move is a key part of the growth plans for the business, as mentioned in last month’s edition, our head count is growing so we need the space!
The Civil industry here in Sydney is very much in full swing with all areas of Civil Construction Booming. With Mega projects, such as Westconnex ($14B), Light rail ($2B), NorthConnex ($2B) starting to ramp up to their next stages of construction mid-tier contractors are starting to win packages of works off the principle contractors.
The next major announcement will be for the new Sydney Metro which will extend metro rail from Sydney’s booming North West region, beneath Sydney Harbour, through new underground central business district (CBD) stations and beyond to Bankstown. The successful tender is due to be announced in the coming months with consortiums comprising of Ferrovial and Acciona, and CPB, John Holland Dragados eagerly awaiting the outcome!
There are also ongoing RMS regional road upgrades ($4B) taking place with more exciting developments to be announced surrounding Sydney’s second airport. The pacific Highway continues to develop momentum and in the coming weeks announcements will be made on stages 5,6 and 7!
These projects will demand many staff and will be a good opportunity for civil construction professionals from other states to relocate to Australia’s favourite city – SYDNEY.
What this means is that we are seeing a skills shortage for Project Managers, Foreman, Site Managers, Project Engineers and Site Engineers which will continue for at least another 8 years!!

Pretty quiet socially this month following Christmas and Australia Day, most of us are hungover, bunkering down and getting the year going again. There’s been plenty of us out on local weekend and international breaks though, with Billy and Trev both heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open, Hayley heading to Bali for a wedding and DT leaving us for the Emerald Isle for a short trip.
CGC Sydney took on Actual Fitness in the much anticipated 5 a side football match, wiping the floor and scaring them off from any future encounters. Standard.

CGC Brisbane have been doing nothing much other than trying to stay cool in the QLD Summer heat, although David hope has officially announced that he is expecting a second baby, congrats mate.
Still no news of the long awaited Baby Todd, and the crucial weigh in, but rest assured CGC are all in Lucy’s corner!
