Welcome to the December issue of the CGC newsletter, the last newsletter for 2018!

Despite the festive nature of Christmas month, the job market is in full swing with plenty of jobs waiting to be snapped. December has been highlighted by strong growth of placements across the industries, complemented by the roll out of CGC Xmas incentive with lots of great prizes on offer for the best performing team.

In this issue we will hear from Nic Maplestone with his insight into the MEP and building services industry. Furthermore, Karl French will cover social events that have taken place in December, amongst which are birthdays, work promotions and of course, the CGC Christmas party!

MEP Market Update with Nic Maplestone

Recruiting into the building services MEP Contractors and in-house services teams within the Builders nationally, the overall feedback is there is a shortage of skilled MEP services candidates within Australia, however the demand for this talent is very much determined on a state by state basis.

The NSW and VIC buildings markets are extremely buoyant, due to the significant investment into the Infrastructure, Healthcare and Education sectors whilst other building sectors including Data Centre and Commercial are still experiencing strong demand. There are no signs of slowing down heading into the new year either with a significant number of tenders out that clients are expected to be awarded early 2019.

The QLD building market also has plenty of optimism heading into 2019, with a number of high profile projects such as; Queens Wharf, Cross River Rail and Tweed Heads Hospital currently being tendered for. The MEP services market is expected to pick up mid 2019 and when some of these key projects are awarded, I believe we will see the QLD market significantly picking up with real demand for services professionals.

The NSW, VIC and QLD building markets are significantly different to that of WA and SA. At present, a priority for contractors in WA and SA is to get tenders out, trying to win work to avoid making staff redundant. Over the past 6 months, I have seen a number of building services professionals relocate to the eastern states where there is demand for their skillsets.

Overall, there is plenty of optimism within the MEP industry heading into 2019 and a great time to be a building services professional. Key demand is for experienced; Mechanical HVAC Engineers, BIM Coordinators, Project Managers and Estimators.

CGC Social

December is always a big month of the year for celebrations with the lead up to Christmas and the New Year, and it’s no different at CGC.

The CGC team celebrated a good end to the year at the Christmas party which was a full day of activities. We started the morning in the office with the Xmas Raffle, and Secret Santa which offered some well thought out and entertaining gift ideas. Well done and Congratulations to Raffle Winners Henry, Billy, Oliver, and Matt who all worked hard on the ticket incentive to give themselves a better chance of winning.

We then left the office for the most anticipated event of the year, the ever-competitive CGC cricket match. Congratulations to the winning team and their Captain Oliver who claimed he’d already won the mental battle on the ferry there, which made the win plain sailing.

This was followed by a Boat party in the afternoon, before making our way out to Double Bay for drinks in the evening.

Earlier in the month, the Brisbane team attended the Property Council Lunch, and Carmel and Steve were both at the WIDAC Sydney Xmas party of which we are National Sponsors, and Carmel is a Member of the committee. CGC were proud to come home with being 19th most socially engaged out of 2800 agencies.

Welcome to our new starters Skye and Karlee. Both have started with Jamie’s team providing permanent and temporary solutions across Finance, and Client-Side Project Management & Construction Services, respectively.

Happy Birthday again to Jim, Tom, Fiona, Anita, and Lee. It’s safe to say we’ve had enough cake in the office this month to last us to the new year.

Its been a busy and enjoyable month at CGC and now everyone has their eye on the Christmas and New Year break, and being ready for another busy Quarter at the start of 2019.
