It’s been a busy time in CGC Sydney and CGC Brisbane this month and a frantic end to the quarter with the business hitting a financial record for the quarter and the financial year! We sadly said...
Read moreWelcome to the June newsletter. And welcome also to our newest staff members, Jamie Ryde and Karina Bjordal, whom we’ll formally introduce below.
CGC recruitment are a market leader in the Construction and Engineering Sectors operating nationally for the last 5 years. In recent times we have seen the NSW and QLD market showing steady growth and a very positive future for workers in terms of career progression and an opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of projects across both regions.
If you are thinking of a career move or would like to find out any information in regards to companies, projects or rates/salaries in the market then please make contact with the construction team on 02 9247 7251.
This month, Rory Todd, a Senior Recruiter who has extensive knowledge and an ever growing presence in the Rail Market gives us an insight into his industry.
The well anticipated Sydney Rail Boom is finally upon us! Due of the increasing number of major infrastructure projects being rolled out, in addition to the ongoing maintenance works continuing across Sydney Trains network the demand for contract staff has increased three fold since when I joined the CGC Rail team in September 2014.
A shortlist of current Rail Infrastructure projects which are well into construction include: NW Metro, Sydney Light Rail, TAP, PSU Project, Hornsby Remodelling and ACT Light Rail. Add to this the ATP Project, New Intercity Fleet, City & SW Metro, Newcastle Light Rail and Parramatta Light Rail projects which will shortly be awarded and you can see how Rail Contractors are going to be spread very thin with regards to resources. With this shortage of internal resources, the opportunities for contract staff to assist in the delivery of projects will be massive and because of the volume of work in the Sydney market, contract / temp roles tend to be long term and financially rewarding.
With a booming market in NSW there is no better time and place for young Rail professionals from overseas who have arrived in Sydney and are seeking employment on a contract basis. Whilst securing a position from overseas can be challenging (Visa’s, relocation etc.) the opportunity to arrive here on an initial working holiday visa (417) and secure a contract position whilst on the ground in Sydney is very strong, especially for Site & Project Engineers who have been involved in Rail projects, ideally with similar standard and codes to the Australian market.
The top 3 positions which I am currently recruiting on a contract basis with well-known rail contractors include:
If like myself two years ago, you are keen to leave the grey miserable skies of Manchester or are leaving for a working holiday in Sydney, jump on that plane and join the Sydney Rail boom!
It has been another exciting month at CGC HQ as we welcome two new starters to the business.
Karina Bjordal has joined the Architecture team to broaden our service lines and temp business. Hailing from Norway, Karina has 6 years recruitment experience.
Karina can be contacted on karina.bjordal@cgcrecruitment.com
Jamie Ryde has joined the team to focus on developing CGC’s presence in the client side project management and property space. Jamie has close to 10 years’ experience including 7 years in the local market and joins the business as a Principal Consultant.
Jamie can be contacted on Jamie.ryde@cgcrecruitment.com
It’s been a quiet month on the social side with many people deciding to take an “English Summer” holiday. James Loomes and his wife Ella enjoyed a belated honeymoon and have been touring around the US and Steve returned to the Motherland for a short break after a 3 year hiatus.
This month we waved off Evan Morgans who after 4 years’ service in Sydney has relocated to our newly formed Brisbane office. Evan will focus on servicing clients in the MEP and Civil Structural design space in the local QLD market. We will miss Evan here in Sydney but he’ll be a great asset in Brisbane.
For further information on opportunities in the QLD design space please contact Evan on evan.morgans@cgcrecruitment.com.
We will be making an announcement on Evan’s replacement here in Sydney shortly, watch this space!
