Read more2013 is now well and truly in swing as projects are beginning to be awarded and organisations are beginning to ramp up hiring plans. At CGC we are continuing to see positive signs in some markets with recently awarded rail projects in Sydney, strong national investment in healthcare projects and increased activity within the water sectors a particular highlight. Whilst conditions remain tough in the resources driven sectors there are multiple projects on hold or just awaiting approvals so the medium term outlook remains positive.
At CGC we have been busy recruiting for projects which are up and running, as well as assisting with client’s strategic growth plans. We are seeing a fair amount of candidates moving from larger multinational organisations to small SME organisations as this buoyant, flexible sector looks to capitalise on available talent and increase market share whilst some of the larger projects await approval. In these circumstances we have found candidates have largely been driven by job security and professional development opportunities as opposed to significant salary increases.
Across the board we anticipate salaries to remain static for the rest of the financial year. It remains to be seen if any of the proposed changes to 457 visas will have on demand and salaries as this legislation takes shape. It is our opinion this and salary increases will become more of a factor as larger projects such as Roy Hill (WA), Carmichael Coal (QLD), NBN (National), North West Rail Link (NSW) and Barangaroo (NSW) all begin ramping up towards the end of the calendar year.
In other news the CGC team recently visited the RTAA open day in Clyde where some impressive plant and rail equipment was on display (see photos below). The rail sector in NSW is going through an exciting time with over $500M of projects awarded in the last couple of months and the N/W Rail Link continues to progress with tenders now shortlisted across the three main packages.
As we wrap up the first quarter of the year the CGC team are off to Tigers v Eels game on Friday night, look out for photos in next month’s round up. CGC is continuing to expand and we are keen to speak with experienced consultants with a background in the construction and engineering sectors. For further information please contact David Cox.
