Read moreFirstly, a big welcome to Carmel Jones who joined CGC earlier this month. Carmel has over 10 years’ recruitment experience within the Construction & Property markets and we’re thrilled she’s joined us. Read more about Carmel.
Q3 was an outstanding quarter with record fees across both permanent and temporary placements. This is a clear indication of how busy the engineering and construction market is right now.
In this month’s newsletter, we will hear from Nic Maplestone on the outlook of the Architecture/Design industry and Rory Todd who covers our end of quarter celebrations and other CGC news.
Architects and Interior Designers are in short supply and high demand throughout NSW. The architecture market is extremely buoyant 12 months on from the last update with no signs of slowing down and there is still a clear demand for skilled Architects at all levels, from Graduate right through to Associate level.
The market is becoming more and more software driven by the day, with BIM (Building Information Modelling) software being increasingly implemented. Revit is by far the most in demand software within the architecture space, with ArchiCAD coming in second place. The efficiency in documenting the project using BIM is becoming invaluable to many practices, enabling them to coordinate with other consultants more easily and also checking for issues such as clash detections. Unfortunately for Architects still using AutoCAD as their main software, they are increasingly finding it more difficult to find suitable opportunities or practices using Revit willing to train them.
There is currently demand for technology savvy Architects and Designers across all industry sectors, with projects being awarded in the Multi-Residential, Commercial, Education, Health & Science, Transport, Defence, Rail and Retail spaces in NSW… just to name a few!
This demand has ultimately led to Architects and Designers looking for new pastures to have numerous opportunities and offers on the table when making a decision.
A few key points to take from this if you are a client:
Here are a few key roles we are currently recruiting:

As a result of all the hard work done in CGC HQ over the last 3 months, the office recently enjoyed a fantastic day of activities involving water jet packs and wakeboarding for the end of quarter day out!!
The day kicked off in classic CGC style with bacon & egg rolls and coffees all round, then the banter bus was loaded and the day began. In an eventful bus journey CGC banter man Evan Morgans hosted the second annual ‘Question of Rec-Con’ with an abundance of comedy-fuelled questions in relation to all the staff. Jim took the plaudits with a cracking score of 18/25 but there were some questionable answers such as Glynis’s previous career as a salvage driver (actually diver!) and Jaymie’s new found love of Red bull!
On to the JetPack Adventure and in overcast but warm conditions, great fun was had by all with most of the CGC crew looking like seasoned pro’s on the water. There were standout performances from Glynis, who mimicked that of a dolphin and Dave Thompson who showed fantastic guile and footwork to hover over the water majestically!
Next stop was a short drive to Penrith Cables Wake Park for more action packed fun on the water. After a quick mars bar and water, wet suits were back on and the task of wake-boarding around Lake Penrith was set! Billy, Glynis, Matt, Trevor and DT were kings and queens of the cables with the rest of us enjoying embarrassing face plants into the water. Curtis and Hopey must have been tired from fathering duties as they opted to keep the ‘arm bands’ on and surf round comfortably on their knees! Very brave boys!
After an adrenaline filled morning, the vintage CGC Hummer was back in business for the journey back to the City, with Trevor Brown’s anthems blasting down the M7 whilst everyone enjoyed a well-earned drink. Next stop was lunch at Black by Ezard in Star City for a first class three course meal. Finally the team dived in a water taxi and headed for evening drinks at the Palisade with a fantastic rooftop view of the city from Barangaroo.
Thanks to Glynis as always for organising a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all. Next stop Gold Coast…
A couple of other notes on the social agenda: the champagne is out again with three CGC anniversaries this month. Evans turns 4, Steve 3 and Trevor Brown is now 1 year deep with the CGC Family! Keep up the good work gents. Finally Happy Birthday to CGCs strongest man Azri Azlan who hits the big 3 0 this month and the new kid on the bloc Carmel Jones who also celebrates her first birthday at CGC on the 25th. Happy birthday guys.
